Presented by the Association for the Promotion of Corsetry Industries, Lingerie Française presents a unique exhibition of underwear from the Old Continent that has been acclaimed all over the world. Learn all about fabric and patterns of the french lingerie with one hundred rare pieces, some as old as 150 years.
Using artsy photographs, videos and holographs, the exhibit explores how French Lingerie influenced the perception of the female body in arts, and the place of women in society over the span of a century (1880-1980), from prudish Edwardian corsets through the flamboyant Dior New Look's inspired girdles, all the way to flashy modern shapes of 80's thongs and bodysuits.
Beginning your tour in the Game Room of the Sagamore Hotel, you will be treated to a display of the history of French-made lingerie, starting from the very first corsets from late 19th Century, to 1930's handmade underclothing. Your time traveling eye candy tour will continue with the revolutionary of nylon in the 1950's, and move on to the extravaganza of shapes and fabrics introduced in the 1980's disco era.
